The 1955 & 1956 distributors have a retainer clip attached to the upper center shaft. The clip part number 12213 is available from most major Thunderbird parts dealers. This clip prevents rotor to shaft movement. Without this clip the car will run very poorly. At cruise speeds the engine can surge as the the rotor moves a few degrees on the upper shaft, effecting engine cruise speed timing.
