Chapter 88

Monterey Bay Classic Thunderbird Club

The Monterey Bay Classic Thunderbird Club is a non-profit car club dedicated to the preservation of the classic Thunderbird. Our members enjoy showing and driving their Thunderbirds to Car Shows and on club outings. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Reedy and Mr. Willard Dobrzensky founded our club in Santa Cruz in 1978.

We are the host of the annual “THUNDERBIRDS ON SANTA CRUZ WHARF”. We began this event in 1998. The car show features 1955-1957 classics and 1958-1965 vintage Thunderbirds. Each year about 100 Thunderbirds and hundreds of people participate in the show. Spectators throughout north California join in the events and participate in the car choice awards, silent auction and raffle. Thunderbirds clubs from California, Nevada and Arizona caravan to Santa Cruz. Many stay the weekend. The Pacific Ocean and the Santa Cruz Mountains along with the areas award winning restaurants make up for a wonderful weekend.

The Monterey Bay Classic Thunderbird Club stays involved in our surrounding communities. We participate in local parades, give to “Toys For Tots”, food for Siena House, donate to Red Cross, V F W, Food Drive for Needy, Children’s Hospice, Women’s, Men’s and Children social associations and we have supported the R O P programs where students learn the industrial arts. This also includes future Automotive technical personnel.

We encourage car buffs of every age to come out and enjoy the classic and vintage Thunderbirds. We invite you to join us even if you do not own a Thunderbird. Please fell free to contact us.
